Here’s a photo of the assembly camp taken in 1914. I found it on the 2nd battalion Yorkshire Regiment’s archive website. My Grandfather George R Hill was in the battalion’s 1000 soldiers the embarked from Southampton for Zeebrugge arriving on 7th Oct ’14. He was one of just 16 from the original force to survive the war during which he was awarded the Military Medal although the citation has been lost. All we have is the Military record card and the London Gazzette listing for May 1917.
