Description: Ceramic rim sherd from a greyware bowl of Roman date. The rim is expanded into a pointed oval shape with slight ridges at the top and outer side. The vessel wall becomes vertical at the top to meet the rim but below this slopes at 45 degrees. The entire height of the wall is not present but it thickens markedly towards the base. The fabric is a medium grey, burnt darker grey at the rim, with abundant, c.30% fine sand temper and common (c. 10%) rounded brown pellets, probably clay pellets, inclusions. It is not visibly micaceous. The breaks are lightly abraded. It weighs 35.12g and the original vessel was c.150mm in external diameter.
