BUCKLE 834092

BUCKLE 834092
Description: A medieval to post-medieval (1350-1720) copper-alloy double oval buckle frame complete with pin (of a different copper alloy). The loops are slightly angled upwards from the central bar which is trapezoidal in cross-section. The underside of the buckle shows tooling marks. The pin is flat and 2.5mm wide, looped around the central bar at one end and narrowing to a point at the other. The buckle is small in size, which may suggest it was used as a shoe buckle. The buckle is 24.8 mm in length, 19.7 mm wide and 1.7 mm thick. The pin is 1.6 mm thick. The object weighs 3.19g. A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead (1996; no. 294), very broadly dated to 1350-1720. It is also similar to PAS record HAMP-8AC146.
