MOUNT 69685

Description: Cast copper alloy sub-rectangular decorative object, probably a mount. The object is formed by a plain, sub-rectangular border surrounding moulded open-work decoration with two front-facing standing figures as the central motif. The two figures, which are moulded in high relief, appear to be holding hands, with their other hands on their hips. The figure to the left wears a garment which reaches the knees so that the lower legs and feet can be seen, while the figure to the right wears a garment which reaches the floor so that the feet are completely covered. Both garments are decorated with vertical incised lines, and both figures also appear to be wearing some sort of belt. Between the two figures is further open-work decoration, perhaps representing a plant or tree. In placing the outer hands on the hips of the figures an aperture is created by the arm which is very regular and circular. Similarly there is a regular circular aperture to the right of centre at the feet of the figure to the right. These regular apertures may have been where the mount was attached. The reverse is slightly concave. Patchy light brown and light-mid green.
