BROOCH 622904

BROOCH 622904
Description: An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age (400-200 BC) La Tène I type brooch which is missing its head, spring, pin and the foot. It measures 27.05mm in length, 6.9mm wide (across the bow), 15.55mm deep (bow to catchplate) and weighs 5.24 grams. The head of the bow and spring are missing, the neck expands from now missing the integral coil and projects outwards at a ninety degree angle to form the thickening bow. The bow is broadly pointed oval in plan and D shaped in cross section. It widens to 6.9mm at the centre, before narrowing to 3.2mm as the lower bow extends offset. The bow is curved to the front and appears to be undecorated. The incomplete catchplate would have extended to one side of the lower bow, only a fragment survives. The foot is missing.
