Description: An incomplete Roman (AD 50-150) copper alloy Colchester Derivative plate headed T-shaped brooch of Hull T124, with hinge mechanism, missing the pin, a fragment of the wing and a fragment of the catchplate. The brooch measures 72.50mm in length, 32.35mm wide and weighs 19.63 grams. The tubular wingspan is 32.35mm and broadly D shaped in cross section. To the reverse is a slot which contains corrosion product. The complete wing is decorated with two vertical grooves broadly halfway along its length. The reverse of the complete wing is covered in iron corrosion. The bow (15.15mm wide) extends from the top of the wings. The main body of the bow is decorated with multiple motifs. Three adjacent vertical ridges separated by vertical grooves are located in the centre of the bow. As the bow narrows towards the foot the bow has a step, the remainder of the bow is decorated with two horizontal ridges located roughtly halfway between the step and the foot. Above the foot the bow is decorated with a further two horizontal ridges. The foot is D shaped in cross section. The catchplate runs along broadly one third of the length of the bow, the curl to hold the pin is incomplete.
