Description: An incomplete copper alloy Iron Age to Roman strip bow brooch dating to the period c. AD 25-75. The brooch has been bent so that the bow and the catchplate are nearly touching, the pin is missing. It measures 33.85mm in length, 14.2mm at its widest point (across the wings), 2.55mm at its narrowest point (tip of the foot) and weighs 2.94 grams. The tubular wing span is 14.2mm, the wings are incomplete. The pin slot contains no evidence of the pin or axis bar, iron corrosion is visible along the break. The bow extends back from the head and is 7.5mm wide, tapering to a width of 2.55mm at the foot. The bow is decorated along its length with two vertical grooves flanking a vertical ridge, the grooves run along the sides of the bow for its entire length. The catch plate extends from the reverse of the bow and displays the remains of the pin rest.
