Description: Cast copper-alloy Kraftig Profilierte brooch of of Almgren’s ‘strongly profiled’ type. One-piece; spring and pin missing. The bow is markedly arched with a pronounced central button at the front. Broad, triangular-sectioned head to button; the lower bow is rectangular-sectioned. The spring would have been secured by the short forward hook. The foot has a strong reverse curve and a terminal button with raised moulding above. Wide catchplate. This type of brooch is rare in Britain and has a distribution centred on Richborough and London. It appears to be an early military import with a date range from c. 43 AD to the end of the 1st century.
