Description: Forty-four sherds of Roman (AD 250-270+) New Forest Ware 1 (possibly), weighing collectively 473.02g. The collection comprises 2 handles (one with attached rim), 3 rim sherds (1 jug/ 1 jar/ 1 ?beaker), 6 base sherds and 33 miscellaneous fragments. The fabric is variable, though lacking many inclusions. Some sherds are very hard fired with black slip, others have a soapy texture. Colours range from peach to grey. The rims measure between 40-50mm in diameter, the bases 50-60mm. Largest sherd 117x72mm, smallest 12x7mm.
