Description: Fragment of Medieval (1250-1350) copper alloy buckle frame of Meols Type 11, consisting of the outside ‘roller’ edge and a short part of the adjoining frame at either end. It measures 26.53mm in length, 7.84 in max.width and weighs 3.4g. The roller is missing. The roller measures 4.28x3.69mm in cross-section, with the pointed knops at either end measuring c.5x6mm in cross-section. The length of the outside edge (without frame) is 24.94mm, of which the roller-area (without ends) is 11.79mm long. The roller-area is very smooth while the ends are rather pitted. Egan and Pritchard (1991) illustrate a similar frame, (p. 72-3 ref. 293), and Whitehead (2003) p.9 no.11.
