STRAP FITTING 141582
Description: A worn cast copper-alloy medieval bar mount, sub-hemispherical in form. The central lobe is criss-crossed by a number of crude diagonal incisions creating a hatched pattern. Both of the smaller side lobes retain their rivets. The reverse features a slight depression, but is otherwise seemingly solid. The object is similar to artefacts illustrated in Read (2001, 23; fig. 12) and Egan and Pritchard (1991, 214; fig. 134) which are dated to the second half of the fourteenth century. It now has a dull grey patina; the alloy has a high tin content.
