Description: Medieval buckle complete with pin and plate. Oval frame with offset, narrowed bars and rectangular plate. The buckle is made of copper alloy, with some gilding still attached to plate. The plate is bent and deformed, with the narrower reverse of the plate broken off just short of the last rivet. It has three rivet holes, in line, along the centre of the plate, with all three rivets still in place. The overall length of the buckle is 31.5mm. The plate 21.20mm long, 10.91mm wide on top and 8.45mm wide on the reverse. It is 2.85mm thick. The frame is 15.42mm wide externally and 11.78mm internally. Its length is 12.74mm and it is 1.82mm thick. The length of each rivet 5.4mm. The buckle weighs 3.57 grams. Egan illusrates two similar buckles. The first dates to circa 1230 - 1260 and the dates to circa 1270 - 1350.
