Calendar of probate administration bonds

Description: Calendar of bonds for the grant of letters of administration for :- Consistory Court for the Archdeaconry of Chichester, 1678, 1689 - 1697. Archbishop's Peculiar Court for the Deaneries of Pagham and Tarring, 1670 - 1689. Dean's Peculiar Court for the Deanery of Chichester, 1675 - 1689, 1770 - 1780. Compiled by K. Williams, 1980 This calendar has been prepared in an attempt to fill, as far as is possible, the gaps in the series of probate diaries which record the grants of letters of administration. These gaps are as follows :- Chichester Archdeaconry, 1684 - 1697. Deaneries of Pagham and Tarring, 1648 - 1689. Deanery of Chichester, 1672 - 1689, 1768 - 1780. The only alternative source to the diaries are the original bonds which were entered into by the administrators when the grant was made. All that have survived for the periods in question have been calendared; but in no court or period do they provide a complete coverage. As most of the bonds are in poor condition and difficult to use, this calendar is intended to make reference to the originals unnecessary for normal searches. All personal names (apart from court officials), relationships and place names have been included. CHICHESTER ARCHDEACONRY, 1678, 1689-1697 (STC V) 1678 1. 2 March 1677/8.
