Mike Morris’s Memories of growing up in East Boldre

Mike Morris was born in 1949, just after the war, in Lymington. He went to school in East Boldre, then was moved to Lymington C of E primary school before sitting his 11 plus for Brockenhurst Grammar School. Mike has always had a passion for nature and particularly enjoyed exploring the forest.  He still lives in East Boldre, in the house next door to where he grew up.

Peter Jordan was born in East Boldre in 1963, His mother – Marigold Jordan was a key figure in the Village.

Sylvia Baker’s childhood memories

Sylvia Baker, nee Rostigina was born in the Broomhill’s compound, just outside East Boldre, in 1946.  She is the granddaughter of Lillian Rostigina and went to East Boldre School and from there to Brockenhurst secondary school.

 

 

 

 

 

Sylvia Lovell – Memories of growing up in the Turf Cutters East Boldre

Sylvia Lovell  was born in 1944 in East Boldre.  When she was 13 her parents took over the running of Turf Cutters pub from her grandparents.  When she first learnt to pull a pint, she had to stand on a beer crate to reach the pump.  As a young child,  Sylvie used to stand on the bar and sing for sixpences and used to stand on a beer crate to be the right height to reach the dart board!

 

 

Valerie Panks’s childhood memories of Broomhill compound and an East Boldre childhood

Valerie Panks was born at Stoney Cross. Her grandmother (Mrs Rostigina) lived for many years in the Compound on the forest at East End. Her parents also lived there briefly but then moved their family to Stoney Cross and eventually to Broomhill Cottages in East End.   She attended East Boldre school.  She has memories of the people living on the forest at the Compound and of playing on the forest as a child.

After she married, she lived in Beaulieu and Sowley until moving to another house in Broomhill Cottages in East End.

Wendy Harvey

Wendy Harvey, nee Kitcher, was born in East Boldre in 1938.  She left school in 1953 and went to work at W & L Symes grocery shop. She worked there until the age of 21, when she married Cliff Harvey.
