STRAP FITTING 986069

Description: A Medieval copper-alloy strap slide. The object consists of a trapezoidal loop that tapers in width from 13.5mm to 12.1mm. The frame has a sub-rectangular cross section, with a small integral rivet that has been snapped near its point. The rivet is a rounded square in cross-section and projects c. 3.5mm from the outside edge of the shorter side. Dimensions: widgth 13.5mm; length 13.6mm (including the rivet, 10.0mm without); thickness 2.3mm; weight 0.95 grams. Egan & Pritchard (1991: 232), nos. 1236-1245 appear identical in form and are dated to the late 13th to 14th century.
