Description: A Post-medieval sheet copper-alloy book clasp, a hook-piece, sub-rectangular in plan, dating to the 16th or 17th centuries. At one end the sides are cut inwards and a central tab continues as a short curved hook. The other end is smooth and strait but rounded at the corners and very slightly flared. The clasp has a circular rivet hole, c 2.0 mm in diameter, 4.5mm from the flared end. The object appears undecorated. The object measures 26.4 mm long, 10.4 mm wide, 2.7 mm thick including the hook, 0.8mm otherwise, and weighs 1.04g. Margeson (1993: 73, fig. 40) illustrates similar but decorated clasps dated from c. 1550-1700.
