STRAP FITTING 985588

Description: An incomplete Post-Medieval copper alloy sword-belt mount, dating to c. 1500 - 1600. An asymmetrical plate with a trilobed terminal, decorated with a foliate and floriate 'vine scroll' moulded-relief on one side. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The plate has one rivet-hole at the attachment end and has traces of iron residue on both sides. The object has a dark green patina. Length: 27.68 mm Width: 17.27 mm Thickness: 1.70 mm Weight: 2.68 g A similar complete strap fitting is illustrated in Read (2001:43), No. 373, reproduced in Read (2008, 220), No. 793, which he dates to the 16th century.
