Description: An incomplete copper-alloy medieval to post-medieval book clasp, dating to the period AD 1500-1700. Howsham Type A3. The clasp i sbroken across the body which was originally lozengiform in shape. At the remaining terminal is a transverse rectangular expansion from the outer edge of which extends a slightly tapering rearward curved, flat hook. The front face of the clasp is decorated with rows of transverse stamped triangles. On the body there is a long line of these before the break and at the opposite end are four rows of increasing length. The rectangular expansion is decorated with four rows extending the full width of the plate. The rear of the plate is undecorated.
