Description: An Early Medieval to Medieval copper alloy openwork cruciform mount, probably decorated in the Ringerike/Urnes style and dating to c. AD 1000-1100. The mount is broadly plano-convex in cross section, and is cast into the form of four interlaced tendrils or serpent-like creatures, with their bodies overlapping to form four central openwork circular apertures arranged in a cross. Each tendril terminates in a zoomorphic sub-triangular perforated lobe, forming the heads of the creatures; one is lost to an old break. The pointed tail of the animal forming the opposite arm projects at a perpendicular angle from the right of the neck of each.
