Description: A fragment of a Medieval or Post Medieval copper alloy scabbard chape dating to c AD 1450 - 1550. Made with a cast front plate and a sheet back plate, the find is the extreme lower, pointed, end of the chape with the point itself intact, and a short section of the longitudinal edge on the left hand side. There is also evidence of open work at the point at which the object has broken away from the main body of the chape.Nothing else survives. Similar examples on the PAS database are LANCUM-8238D5; WMID-2D9640; HAMP-DF744E; LANCUM-8238D5; LEIC-1CF506, although these are more complete. See also Ward-Perkins (1975) p.285 fig. 87 type V for a similar example. Also, Egan (2005) p.192-3 1082 for a lead/tin example from a late 15th-early 16th century context.
