HARNESS MOUNT 836575

HARNESS MOUNT 836575
Description: An incomplete cast copper alloy horse harness mount, dating to the medieval period AD 1200- 1500. The top of the object has a rectangular plate section, and it is surrounded by three small loops (one of which has broken off). The plate is decorated with three triangle wedges, all with internal borders and are raised with ridged edges. All of the top points of the triangles face directly towards the centre of the rectangular plate, resembling a cross pattee. Below this design is a rectangular space where two attachment hooks stand away from the main plate of the mount. One of the hooks has broken off, but it is here where an attachment fitting such as a pendant would have hung. The height of the harness mount fitting is 27.44mm the width is 15.60mm, the thickness is 4.37mm and the weight is 3.27g. Similar harness mounts can be seen in WILT-628B55 and Clark(1995) "Medieval Horse and its Equipment", no.75, p69.
