BUCKLE 834098
Description: An incomplete medieval to post-medieval (1350-1600) copper-alloy double oval buckle frame, with a recent break to one loop just beside the central bar. The frame retains its pin, of a different copper alloy.
The loops are slightly angled upwards from the central bar and each retains traces of a transverse notch at the centre for the pin. The central bar is trapezoidal in cross-section. The flat pin measures 2.1mm where it curves around the bar, narrowing to a point at the other end. The buckle is small in size, which may suggest it was used as a shoe buckle.
The buckle is 23.3 mm in length, 18.7 mm wide and 3.0 mm thick. The pin is 1.1 mm thick. The object weighs 2.19g. A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead (1996; no. 294), very broadly dated to 1350-1720. It is also similar to PAS record HAMP-8AC146.
