Description: An incomplete copper alloy strap end probably dating to the period AD 1350-1450. The strap end was probably composed by a circular upper plate and a sheet back plate, now missing. The circular plate tapers both sides of a central openwork creating a crescent with a figurative projection on the top. On the plate are two holes for the inserction of the rivets, one of which is still in place. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with diffent incised lines making a geometric pattern. In corrsepondence of the projection the plate expands distinctly. One side of the plate is bent on itself and slightly damaged. The plate is old broken is correspondence of the two ends of the crescent. The upper projection is lozenge shape with blunt edges. It is decorated with a concentric series of elongated grooves and the general design is probably representig a leaf. The reverse part is flat and undecorated. The strap end measures 41.51mm in length, 29.43mm in width, 2.23mm in thick and weighs 7.30g. Similar strap ends are recorded on PAS database as WILT-341F9C and WILT-0341D4, both dating to 15th century AD.
