BUCKLE 77051

Description: Incomplete copper alloy medieval oval buckle frame with offset narrowed bar, missing its pin. The axis bar is broken away from the frame at one end. The frame is D-shaped in section, being flat on the underside. The outside edge is recessed for a sheet roller 1mm thick, decorated with a central groove. The frame tapers to the axis bar, which protrudes slightly to either end. It is 21mm in length (internal 11mm), 29mm wide (internal 20mm) and weighs 5.45g. Cf Egan 1991 no.270 (for sheet roller) and no. 271 (shape of frame). The metal is purlish in colour with a rough surface.
