Description: A complete late early-medieval copper alloy single loop buckle with integral plate. The single loop buckle is D shaped and has a zoomorphic depiction of a horned animal at the tip of the loop. The animal appears to have an open mount, the eyes and brow of the head is prominent and two horns are visible running along part of the length of the loop. There is a circular perforation to hold the pin which is now missing. To the reverse of the zoomorphic depiction the buckle frame is concave. The plate is broadly rectangular and has a split end terminal with a circular perforation to hold a rivet which is now missing. The front face appears to be decorated. The buckle is 35.9mm in length, 15.95mm wide, 5.6mm thick and weighs 7.79 grams.
