Description: An incomplete medieval (1350-1450) composite buckle, missing its two sheet plates. It measures 28.3mm in length and 21.4mm in max.width (at the frame). It weighs 2.82 grams. The object comprises an oval lipped frame with a knop on the outside edge and an intergral forked spacer plate. The internal measurements of the frame are 10.25mm in length by 17.45mm wide. The forked spacer is 14.95mm wide behind the frame and narrows to 14.45mm. The pin is incomplete. Egan & Pritchard comment, 'These buckles with their distinctive composite plates seem to have been a widespread mid 14th to early 15th century form in this country' (1991; p.80). Cf.
