BUCKLE 729562

Description: An incomplete copper alloy medieval single looped buckle with integral plate dating to the period c. AD 1250 - 1400. The buckle frame is D-shaped with a bevelled outer edge which widens towards the front. The butt of the pin is looped around the narrowed pin bar and folded back on itself. The pin is triangular and tapers to a point. The integral plate is formed from a single piece of metal looped around the pin bar with a central trapezoidal pin slot cut to accomodate the pin. There is a rivet hole housing a copper alloy rivet which passes through both the upper and lower plates just behind the pin bar. The plate is bent at an acute angle. The lower plate terminates in an old break at the point where the plate bends. The upper plate is longer and also terminates in an old break. The buckle and plate measure 29.81mm in length (folded), 18.11mm maximum width, 10.79mm minimum width, is 2.96mm thick and weighs 4.51g.
