HARNESS PENDANT 727885

HARNESS PENDANT 727885
Description: A copper alloy openwork harness pendant of uncertain date, featuring four T-shapes of pairs of back-to-back zoomorphic heads with open jaws extending from a short vertical shaft, arranged equidistantly around a central ring 17.3mm in diameter (with a 11.3mm diameter internal measurement). The animal pair directly below the loop (which is turned through 90 degrees and has worn through the edge at some point) are slightly thicked than the others. Worn ridges of ears and brow ridge are obvious. The snout and open jaws are apparent on each of the eight animal heads. The loop is max.3.5mm thick with a central piercing 1.9x2.4mm in diameter, elongated at the wear point which has broken through the edge. The two resulting ends of loop are now touching. The original patina of the metal has been lost and it is now a purpley-brown in colour with rough patches of green. The object measures 39.3mm in length, 30.9mm in width, 6.6mm in max.depth (at the loop; the openwork plate is 2.4mm thick) and weighs 6.56g.
