Description: A fragment of late early-medieval (1000-1100) copper alloy bridle cheek-piece of Williams Type 2. Its breaks are very worn. The cheekpiece consists of a long tapering projection ending in a rounded knob, and at the other end extending into an openwork design of two narrower projections around two semi-circular holes, probably missing a third where it has broken off at its base. Behind is a projecting lobe to either side. The object is rectangular in cross-section with a purpley-brown/ green patina and rough to the touch. The knob is spherical and measures 7.1mm in diameter and 6.5mm thick. The fragment measures 45.8mm in incomplete length, 25.7mm in max. width, 6.5mm in max.thickness (the plate being max.5.4mm thick) and weighs 17.24g.
