STRAP FITTING 601136

Description: A copper alloy Post Medieval (AD c.1600-1700) strap fitting. It is cordate with a large trefoil or fleur-de-lis projecting from the point of the heart. The trefoil has a circular perforation in each of its side leaves. One of these perforations has an incised crescent around half of it. The heart is domed and correspondingly hollow on the reverse. The trefoil is flat on the front and back with bevelled front edges. There are two pointed bent lugs on the reverse, one projecting from where the heart meets the trefoil, and the other from the opposite end of the heart. Overall the strap fitting measures 36.80mm long, 23.45mm wide and 9.25mm thick (4.45mm not including the lugs). It weighs 7.38g.
