BROOCH 384816
Description: A Medieval (1200-1500) copper alloy annular brooch complete with (bent) pin and traces of gilding. It measures 27.59x24.41x3.09mm (internal 20.21x17.58mm) and weighs 5.73g.
The frame has moulded decoration one the upper face depicting four zoomorphic heads with ears, brow ridge and long curving snout, apparently chasing each other around the circumference. The reverse is flat and undecorated. Between each head is a c.5mm long plain section, one of which narrows to form the constriction for the pin. It is here traces of gilding are visible.
The pin has a closed loop around the frame with a swollen transverse rib below. The pin is oval in cross-section and tapers to a point.
