BUCKLE 32859

HARNESS FITTING 32859
Description: A copper-alloy medieval probable buckle plate decorated in the Limoges style. Rectangular folded front and back plate with two copper-alloy rivets, both of which are intact, although the folded edge is broken. The upper surface depicts a ?dragon infilled with pale blue and another unidentified enamel. The surrounding field is infilled with dark blue enamel and there is an area of pale green and yellow enamel below the creature's curving tail. The lack of a pin slot suggests that the plate belongs to a double-looped frame, as with SF-3C1522 on this database, for example, or one with an openwork plate illustrated in Boehm and Taburet -Delahaye (1996, 287; no. 91). This latter is dated to the first quarter of the 13th century. The plate is 33.5 mm long by 36 mm wide; it weighs 19.63 g
