BROOCH 200419

Description: Incomplete Roman copper alloy strip bow brooch, c.1st century AD, missing the pin and is bent towards the back of the bow above the catchplate. The brooch measures 37mm in length and is 13mm in width. It weighs 2.6g. The bow has one single lateral line running down it which is slightly off centre towards the right when looking at the front. Both the wings of the brooch has been damaged with the left hand side wing twisted towards the centre and broken. The right hand side of the bow has been chipped which look to be recent. The bend in the bow however is an old bend. The brooch has a shiny black/green patina on the front but is rough with a reddish/brown patina on the back.
