BUCKLE 141449

BUCKLE 141449
Description: A worn cast single-looped copper-alloy buckle frame of medieval date. The buckle is D-shaped, more properly pentagonal in plan (with rounded corners) on account of the thickened sub-triangular outer edge. The pin bar is narrow and offset (Thickness: 2.8mm). The incomplete pin survives attached; the tip is missing. It is of thick wire construction, bent round to secure it in place. The outer edge features a central groove in which the pin would have sat. The upper surface of the frame is decorated with incisions which follow its curve. The artefact has a dull mid-green patina and some corrosion to the lower surface.
