VESSEL 136805
Description: The neck and mouth from a Roman New Forest ware vessel, probably a flask of the early 4th century. The fabric is of a light orange colour, with extensive mid-brown colour coat both internally and externally. This fineware fragment is everted at the mouth (Dia.: 33.1mm), and has suffered a slight loss on the underside of the rim. Below the rim is a collar or flange (max. dia.: 28.2mm) with a groove above. There are some indentation marks on the collar and also on the neck below. The neck has been irregularly broken, making classification difficult. The fragment is nonetheless tentatively classified as a Type 8 flask in Fulford's (1975, 47; fig. 9) corpus, giving the approximate date cited.
