BELL 1049527
Description: A complete two-piece post medieval copper alloy crotal bell (c.1600-1800). Two sound holes on the upper portion, one only partially piercing through the surface. A cast square suspension loop with a central arched hole, which dates this item to the 17th or 18th century (see Blunt 2005). From the base of the suspension loop is a series of radiating lines which are more evident on one side than the other. Two sounding holes on the lower surface are joined by a roughly-finished slot whose edges in the middle area are nearly joining. Radiating from the slot is a series of lines in a sunburst appearance. There is no maker's mark. The upper and lower portions are joined by a pronounced seam. The internal sounding element is present and appears to be of copper alloy.
