Description: A complete early Post Medieval cast copper alloy dress hook, Read's Class A type 1, sub-circular with three attachment knops, dating to c AD 1550 - 1700. It is a one-piece, open-work item with moulded relief in the centre which is a human mask, facing, but at right angles to the line of the hook. This is surrounded by a curved arm, double-stranded cross , and the circular outer frame has three attachment knops extending from it, an oval one at the apex, circular ones at each lower side, close to the integral, round-ended rectangular hook.The hook curves forward and extends from a flat round-ended collar. The loop at the apex is sub-oval and decorated with rope-like moulding. Dimensions: 43.8mm in length; 32.36mm in width; 6.9g in weight Oval hooks with three attachment knops are classified by Read (2008) as Class A, Type 1. cf. Read (2008: 166) no. 617.
