STRAP FITTING 1046612
Description: An incomplete medieval copper alloy strap fitting dating to AD 1325-1400.
The strap end is formed from a single sheet of copper alloy which has been folded 180 degrees. It would have been secured with a single circular rivet, which remains present although its point has been damaged and is now missing.
Egan and Pritchard (1991: 129) present a series of examples of this simple form, including their no. 594 which is similar. This is dated to their ceramic phase 10, which is dated from AD 1325-75.
Measurements: 29.9mm length, 12.4mm width, 1.3mm thickness, weight 1.80g.
