Description: 1 collective petition (16 people including Vicar and churchwardens and overseers of Whiteparish, Wiltshire) on behalf of Thomas Gange convicted at the Wiltshire Special Assize December 1830 for destroying a threshing machine belonging to Timothy Rumbold. There is also a letter from Henry Rooke supporting the petition and a covering letter. Gaoler's report: character not known. Grounds for clemency: aged parents, poor but honest, youth (20 years old), first offence, has a good character, has supported parents, realises enormity of crime. Initial sentence: 7 years' transportation. Annotated: penitentiary. HP19.
