BROOCH 275851

Description: Incomplete Roman copper alloy T-shaped brooch with tubular wings and a hinged mechanism, missing the lower bow and catchplate and the pin. It measures 29.85mm in incomplete length and weighs 8.13g. The wings are 26.21mm wide with iron corrosion to the rear, at the gap for the pin. They are decorated to the front with a grooved inverted V and a rib at the outside, open edge. The bow extends from the top of the wings and is 10.44mm wide. A wide central rib is visible running along the centre. The bow at this point is D-shaped in section. As it tapers, it becomes rather more rounded in section. After 27mm, at the break, it measures 3.69mm in diameter. The brooch is rather worn. Mid 1st- mid-2nd century in date.
