FINGER RING 976056
Description: A Roman (AD 43-410) copper alloy finger-ring of uncertain Henig type, with a projecting oval bezel (set with the rather damaged remains of a blue glass intaglio and suggesting a Henig/ Guiraud type I/1) and a narrow slightly keeled hoop (Henig type VIII/ Guiraud type 3). The hoop is slightly squashed.
The bezel measures 16.4x10.8mm and stands 5.6mm tall. The bezel is waisted lengthwise (min.16.0mm) whilst being top-heavy and projecting outwards widthwise (the base measuring 7.6mm wide). The shoulders narrow to c.3.4x1.6mm and thicken thereafter to 2.8mm at the back of the hoop.
Where the patina survives it is a rich, smooth brown in colour. The finger-ring measures 24.8mm in width, 24.4mm in height (internal loop 20.8x16.2mm) and weighs 5.33g.
