Description: An Iron Age or Early Roman copper alloy Nauheim derivative La Tene III brooch, probably dating to c. AD 25-75. The brooch is in complete and now comprises of the bow and incomplete head of the brooch only. A tthe head of the brooch the bow narrows into a chord which is wrapped around an iron axis bar, surviving in situ, to form a sprung head with an internal chord. Only two coils of a probable original 4 survive; the pin is lost. The bow is undecorated, with a squat plano-convex cross section, and tapers into the foot, which is lost to an old break. Dimensions: 34.0mm in length; 7.8mm in width; 2.5mm thick at top of bow; 4.4g in weight.
