MOUNT 949354

Description: A complete Medieval copper alloy bar mount, probably dating to c. AD1150-1450. The mount comprises a central circular boss with a convex front and concave reverse. The front of the boss is decorated with four transverse incised lines leaving three ridges. Expanding from either longitudinal end of the boss is a perforated circular lug, each holding a separately made copper alloy rivet in situ. Dimensions: 17.17mm in length; 9mm in width; weight 1.25g. Two mounts of very comparable form can be seen illustrated by Egan & Pritchard (1991 p214, nos. 1160 & 1161), both found in contexts dating to the late 14th century, although mounts of this form appear to have been popular throughout the Medieval period. cf Read 2001 p19, 23 fig 12, nos. 149 - 157 dated as c. AD1350 - 1400.
Date: 1150 - 1450
