Description: A plain silver button The button is bi-convex with a domed front and back. The front is undecorated. The rear dome has two oval blow holes made flanking a separately applied loop. The loop is formed of a strip of D-shaped sectioned wire bent over on itself and the ends soldered to the back of the button. There is a visible line of solder around the joint between the front and back where they were attached. The front dome is dented in several places.

A similar button is recorded in database record SOM-7EBAED (2017 T203) where Laura Burnett notes: Numerous buttons of this type have been previously reported as Treasure, for example: 2015 T359 (WMID-B44518, Gilmore 2015), 2012 T64 (Darch 2012). All are considered to be of 17th century AD dating. Egan (2005:50) suggests button with hollow heads and two holes from the mould on the back "may not have been produced after the end of the 17th century".
This object appears to consist of over 10% precious metal and be over 300 years old at the time of finding and as such qualifies as potential Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
