TWEEZERS 921206
Description: A small fragment of copper alloy, possibly part of a set of Roman tweezers, dating to c. AD 43-410, although a later date cannot be ruled out. The object consists of an almost parallel sided rectangular strip of copper alloy, with a curved profile and an obtuse point of inflection preceding the plain terminal at one end. The other end terminates in an old break. A series of sub-oval fields along the 8inside face each contain a reserved cross-catch pattern.
Dimensions: Length 28.9mm; width 5.1mm; thickness 0.1mm; weight 0.69g.
It is difficult to identify such a small and undiagnostic item, however, the patina is suggestive of a Later Roman date and similar tweezers from Roman and Post-Roman contexts can be seen published by Crummy (1983: 59) nos. 1877-1885, although this identification is tentative.
