HARNESS PENDANT 90089

HARNESS PENDANT 90089
Description: Medieval copper alloy elaborate harness pendant, the loop of which is bent backwards. There are remains of the axis bar still in situ. Some traces of black enamel remain, otherwise all original patina is missing. The harness pendant is circular at its centre, a 12mm diameter central decoartion surrounded by six radiating trefoils. It is from one of these, at 12 o'clock, the loop extends, turned through 90 °. The decoration is of three small ?trees on a small hillock surrounded by enamel, cf.Ashley 2002 no.231. Ashley comments this design may or may not be armorial. Measures 32.5x27.5x2mm and weighs 6.36g. Mid-13th - mid-14th century.
