BELL 885766
Description: A complete post medieval cast copper alloy spherical crotal bell, dating to c AD1600 - 1800. It has a rectangular suspension loop with circular, probably drilled perforation with two circular perforations in the upper half of the bell, one of which has been, or has become, enlarged. There is radiating moulded tear drop shape or sunburst decoration above and below the raised central circumferential ridge. By the slot a maker's mark of the letters M and S appear, on one side, in separate rectangular cells, and the number 4 in a similar cell on the other. It contains its iron pea.
Diameter: 38.42mm, height: 47.20mm. It weighs 62.81g.
The type pf suspension loop suggests mid 17th century AD. See NMS-6AFBE6 for a bell with similar makers mark (MS / 7).
