BROOCH 867624

Description: A Roman cast copper alloy oval plate brooch dating to 2nd - 3rd century AD. The plate brooch has been bent. The plate is surrounded by a raised margin 1.45mm in width and encloses a central oval area with a similar margin, 2.66mm in width. To the reverse the spring and distorted pin is held by a corroded iron axis bar. The catch plate is bent and distorted. It is 26.28mm in length, 21.74mm in width, the plate 2.13mm thick, and weighs 7.81g. See Hattatt p364 fig223 no1207 for very similar brooch.
