Description: An incomplete copper alloy Roman headstud brooch dating to period AD 75-200. The pin is missing, the head loop and catchplate are broken. The bow of the brooch is rectangular in section, terminating in a circular foot that is decorated with four narrow, circumferential grooves. There are two complete, tubular wings, closed at the outer ends, forming the housing for the pin bar. There is a slot between these wings to accommodate a hinged pin. The upper side of each wing is decorated at the outer end with three narrow, transverse grooves. There is a circular headstud on the shoulder of the bow containing a slightly dished, circular boss surrounded by red enamel, the colour now faded. There is also a circular boss on the underside of the foot. It has a green and brown patina.
The brooch measures 41.49mm in length, 13.62mm in wingspan, 3.58mm thick and weighs 7.57g.
