Description: A set of 9 Post Medieval cast copper alloy discoidal buttons (AD 1600-1700). The buttons are circular in plan and the reverses are flat with an inner circle and iron loops. The buttons are decorated with half circles within two beaded loops Buttons of this type are made from a form of brass called tombac which patinates to a dull silver colour. The button measures 16.6mm diameter, 6.2mm thick and weighs 4.5 grams. These examples date to the 17th century and are probably from a shirt that has disintegrated away. Similar buttons are illustrated in Bailey, Buttons and Fasteners (2004) p35.The diameters are 30mm and the weight 48.43g.
